Travellers' Tales from the wild, wet and whacky world of the MG Midget

Day 1: Friday April 16th 1999 - The car arrives

Left work early, all excited, rushing down to Poole to take possession of my first
ever car - and what a car!

Was it really that colour?  Did it really need that much work doing to it? - 'Yes' says
Paul, supportively, trying to get the indicators to work.....

Day 2: Saturday April 17th

Failed to start ( twice ). Still, the new aerial makes it look nice and it's much
safer turning corners now. All the kids ( young and old ) want a ride -
'Crescent Tours' is born.....

Day 3: Sunday April 18th

Failed to start ( again ). Tours of the estate are now a popular feature,
although the people at the end of the road have started throwing things
as we pass. Maybe we should go somewhere else.....

Day 4: Monday April 19th

Received threatening letter from the residents association, lucky it's in the garage for repairs.....

Bank Holiday Weekend April 30th - May 3rd

All lovely and shiny and working. All repairs done it was 'cruising time'. Three days of
beautiful weather to enjoy.

Well, it started off OK but then we began to learn our first open top lessons.....

Lesson number 1 - Don't park under trees. White stands out on black seats and really
gets into the stitching. Plus, once it's been baked by the sun for three hours you need
a hammer and chisel to remove it.

Lesson number 2 - Wear a hat, preferably with a large brim, or factor 100 suncream.
The cooling breeze really lulls you into a false sense of security, and then your face
falls off. This is hard to get off of the seats as well.

Lesson number 3 - It's colder in the evenings. It's fine bombing around the New Forest
in shorts and t-shirts. A lovely meal in a country pub - and then then it's dark, the fog
descends and boy, is it cccccold.....
