Essex Churches Guide
Essex Tourism have produced a new guide to Essex Churches with the support of The Diocese of Chelmsford.
The new guide highlights some of the magnificent churches in the county of Essex, from Hadstock across to Wrabness and down to Sutton, 42 churches are featured.
Essex Churches bear testimony to nearly 2,000 years of Christian presence in these isles, each one reflects in its own way the story of its community, and most are made lovelier still by the suprising beauty of the Essex countryside.
The Guide offers an insight into a small selection of over 250 Grade I and Grade II listed churches in the county, in fact there are more than 500 churches in Essex in total.
There are some fascinating facts aswell, for example St Laurence church in Blackmore has a 15th century wooden tower famous for its unique pagoda design described as "one of the most impressive, if not the most impressive, of all timber towers of England".
