Who are the Blackhawks?

The Blackhawks are comic book heroes. Their career has spanned more than fifty years, making them some of the longest lived characters in the comic book universe. One of the first teams in comics, they laid the ground work for later, better known teams, like the X-Men. The Blackhawks began their career in World War II fighting the Axis powers. After the war they found new foes, first in the Communist threat and later in countless super-powered criminals.

BLACKHAWK.

His true name is unknown. A Polish-American pilot flying for the Polish Air Force, he saw his family killed by the Nazis in the invasion that started WW II. He swore vengeance and launched a one man terror campaign against the Nazis. Inspired by his exploits, he was soon joined by other crack pilots.

STANISLAUS.

The first to join forces with Blackhawk, the Polish muscleman watched as his family and friends died, victims of the Nazi scourge. Stan is reputed to have been a circus strongman, as well as a brilliant student at the University of Warsaw.

HENDRICKSON.

The eldest Blackhawk, the walrus-mustached Dutchman has seen the most combat of them all and is considered the wise old man of the group. Though married, his wife, Violet, died before World War II began. He is an expert with all weapons.

OLAF.

Born in Sweden, the lantern-jawed Olaf was one of that country's leading circus acrobats. Although Sweden was neutral during the war, Olaf could not just casually watch as Europe fell before the Nazi menace. Thus, he left behind Sweden's peace and became a Blackhawk.

CHUCK.

Before joining Blackhawk, the Texas-born cowboy was a high-flying member of England's Royal Air Force. Chuck is an expert pilot and electronics genius, as well as a lover of a good, old-fashioned brawl. Though good-natured, Chuck can also be a deadly enemy.

ANDRE.

A true ladies' man and soldier of fortune, the dapper Frenchman was a leader in the famed French underground and is a linguist par excellence. Andre is known for his military planning and he works alongside Blackhawk, preparing their daring raids.

CHOP-CHOP.

A master of the martial arts, Chop-Chop is a small package that packs a big wallop. His family lost their home during the Japanese-Chinese armistice, and he traveled throughout Europe before finding a new home with the Blackhawks. Later in the career of the Blackhawks, the name Chop-Chop, which some considered offensive was changed to Chopper.

"The greedy grasp of tyranny is upon Europe, and ramparts of evil challenge the free-born peoples of the world to dispute Nazi cruelty if they dare! And there are those who dare, who never refused a dare yet! Messengers of destruction to all evil and injustice -- The Blackhawks!"

"Hawkah - We're the Blackhawks,
Hawkah - We're on the wing,
Over land over sea,
We will fight to make men free
and to every nation
liberty will bring.
Hawkah - Follow The Blackhawks,
Hawkah - Shatter your chains,
Seven fearless men are we,
give us death or liberty.
We are the Blackhawks,
remember our names."
