It is difficult to know where to start when talking about the Corrs, as they are so lively and full of character, with such a wonderful history. For the purposes of this Web site, I will start from the beginning.

The Corrs, comprising of Jim, Sharon, Caroline and Andrea, were born into a musical family. Their parents Jerry and the late Jean Corr had their own folk band and played the pub and club scene around their hometown of Dundalk, Ireland. Jean died tragically on the 26th November 1999 at the age of 57 after a long illness, and will be remembered fondly always.

This traditional musical upbringing has always been the fundamental Andrea sitting pretty!influence to the Corrs' music. Almost every song has an Irish ditty or feel to it, yet at the same time the music is a mix of modern pop and rock and roll with Irish overtures. This, combined with the band's good looks and utter passion and devotion to their music is what has made the band so succesful today in the 21st century.

It hasn't always been plain sailing, however. In the modern popular music industry, record labels favour trendy commercial bands, not groups that acually have real talent and who are passionate about their music, like the Corrs. Thus the Corrs' first attempts to break into the record industry had little success, and it was a real struggle to find a label. If the band were spiteful, they would now be able to laugh in the faces of all the labels who chose to ignore them.

The Corrs' first moment of stardom came with a role in the film The Commitments, and of course Andrea went on star alongside Madonna in the musical Evita. It was still, however, a hard trawl to find a record company. They played their first Dublin gig at the Waterfront, mostly in front of friends and family who would not be afraid to cheer, and although those present enjoyed themselves, the record companies did not show. A second gig was staged at the Waterfront, and again all the tickets were sold out, but still the invited record companies did not show. John Hughes, the Corrs' manager, decided to give it one last shot and prepared a gig for Whelan's, again in Dublin.

Sorry, that's all for now! I'm off on holiday to Austria for a week. (27/08/00). One week after that and you'll be able to come back and find out how the Corrs fared in their Whelan's gig.
